Not The Tree
By Elijah Tate
Assumptions made about who I am because you were afraid to ask,
You kept your distance purposefully because I didn't fit your task,
Its easy to make assumptions than to learn the truth about someone,
You told me not to judge but you judged me with the notion I am just a son,
Assumed no credibility sat inside of me when we spoke but you never asked so I never told.
I don't blame you after all illusions and lies are by far easier to hold,
You're right I am not over you but that also means you don't rule over me,
It's easier to hide than to open your eyes to see, we are all just a branch, not The Tree.
Truth is a bitter pill to swallow when we are accustomed to sugarcoated words.
