Abanox
By Elijah Tate
Predators of Dragons. Relics of the Nexus Era.
The Abanox are a sentient, highly adaptive species originating from the era of the ancient race Nexus. Their existence is shrouded in myth, fear, and scientific fascination. Legends claim they were created through the cross‑breeding of dragons with the colossal scorpion‑like beasts known as Scorions, though some Nexian scholars argue they were engineered rather than bred.
Whatever their origin, the Abanox stand as the only natural predators of dragons.
ANATOMY & APPEARANCE
An Abanox possesses:
• the head and wings of a dragon
• the segmented body and venomous tail of a Scorion
• a reinforced exoskeletal structure
• retractable wings that fold seamlessly into the carapace
When grounded, an Abanox can conceal its wings entirely, appearing as nothing more than a massive Scorion. This deception has led countless adventurers to their deaths.
Their intelligence is comparable to that of dragons — cunning, observant, and capable of speech in several tongues.
TEMPERAMENT & BEHAVIOR
Abanox are:
• territorial
• calculating
• patient hunters
• capable of complex communication
• not inherently aggressive unless provoked or stalking prey
They prefer:
• deep caverns
• abandoned ruins
• ancient dungeons
• remote mountain hollows
They avoid major cities and rarely interact with civilization unless drawn by hunger or disturbance.
They hunt day or night, guided by instinct and elemental attunement.
THE ABANOX PRINCIPLE
The Core Biological Truth
All Abanox share a unique internal organ system capable of:
compressing, amplifying, and weaponizing a natural force.
This organ — known as the Aero‑Core (though its name varies by subtype) — allows each Abanox to unleash catastrophic elemental attacks.
This is why dragons fear them.
Dragons evolved armor, fire resistance, and magical shielding —
but the Abanox evolved weapons designed to bypass all of it.
ABANOX SUBTYPES
Below are the known Abanox variants, each tied to the elemental lineage of the dragon used in its creation.
🌪️ Zypherwing — The Aerokinetic Apex
• compresses air to supercritical density
• infuses it with Eather
• releases a shockwave capable of obliterating soft matter
• destabilizes dragonflight
• ruptures organs through pressure alone
The signature “sky‑rending roar” is feared across continents.
🔥 Pyroclast — The Thermal Abanox
• absorbs ambient heat
• stores it in a biological heat‑sink
• releases a focused thermal lance
• melts scales and liquefies armor
• turns sand into glass
Dragons resist fire —
but not plasma.
🎶 Resonant Maw — The Sonic Abanox
• dual‑chambered throat
• vibrational plates
• Eather‑amplified resonance
• emits a directional sonic beam
Effects include:
• shattered bone
• ruptured organs
• collapsed structures
• disoriented dragons
Dragons’ acute hearing becomes their downfall.
⚡ Voltback — The Electrokinesis Abanox
• stores electrical charge
• channels it through Eather‑conductive nerves
• unleashes lightning arcs
Effects:
• neural disruption
• cardiac arrest
• scale‑piercing burns
Dragons resist heat, not electricity.
🌑 Gravemarrow — The Gravity Abanox
The rarest and most feared.
• dense Eather‑core
• manipulates localized gravity
• creates micro‑gravity wells
Effects:
• crushed targets
• grounded dragons
• distorted flight paths
• collapsed wings
Considered a myth by many — until they see one.
🧪 Corroder — The Chemical Abanox
• dual‑gland secretion
• mixes into a hyper‑corrosive compound
• expelled as mist or spray
Effects:
• dissolves scales
• melts armor
• burns through stone
• destabilizes dragonfire
Dragons instinctively flee from its scent.
ECOLOGICAL ROLE
Abanox exist at the top of the food chain.
Their purpose — whether natural or engineered — is clear:
to regulate dragon populations.
Without them, dragons would dominate every ecosystem on Eathron.
USAGE & HARVESTING
Every part of an Abanox is valuable:
• carapace → armor
• venom → paralytics, alchemy
• wings → spell components
• organs → elemental catalysts
• meat → edible, but an acquired taste
Harvesting an Abanox is dangerous and rarely attempted.
ADVENTURER WARNING
Recommended only for elite adventurers
—or those with a death wish.
Even a young Abanox can kill a dragon.
A mature one can level a fortress.
